Energy Performance Testing
In 2009 the building code introduced an enhancement of the energy efficiency requirements. They not only raised the bar on energy efficient components of a home like windows but also added a significant feature called performance testing. It makes sense if we are going to require air sealing improvements on the shell of the home to not take someone’s visual inspection as proof but require physical air leakage testing using a blower door. The same goes with the HVAC distribution air ducts if they extend outside the thermal barrier of the home. Since most of the air ducts in Texas are in the attic, they require testing for leakage. Don’t want to air condition or heat the attic.
